Life as a Trucker… keeping that day 1 excitement
Life as a truck driver is one that brings exciting new places, new experiences and new adventures, however, being a truck driver is also one of the most stressful jobs in America. While yes, truckers drive across the country to deliver goods, they are also doing so under deadlines for arriving in time to their destination, loading & unloading whatever they are carrying, and dealing with harsh road conditions and reckless drivers.
As a truck driver, those first years lend excitement but after a few road trips that excitement can wane. Here are some tips to keep that same enthusiasm and appreciation for your job.
Tip #1: Take New Roads
For most truck drivers, this might not be easy since they have to follow a specific route. However, if one day you delivered your load ahead of schedule, go ahead and take a different course back home.
Tip #2: Contact your Friends and Family
The peace and quiet of long hours by yourself is appealing to some, however, at some point, you are going to want to talk to someone while you drive. So contact a friend or a family member and chat while you drive; This will make time go faster. Make sure you are using speakerphone or earphones to talk- remember, keep both hands on the steering wheel.
Tip #3 Listen to a Podcast
Podcasts are great entertainment on the road, and there are tons of different podcasts out there for all kinds of topics. Here are some of our favorite podcasts to listen to while on the road.
Tip #4 Exercise/Stretch
We might not be health experts, but we know that you must stretch and exercise now and then to keep your body tuned for long road trips. This allows your muscles to release all that stress accumulated and will relieve or prevent common symptoms such as back and neck pain.

Tip# 5 Remember Why You Became a Trucker
It happens to absolutely everyone. When having a bad day, most people just want to quit what they are doing and start from scratch on something new.
If you are having a bad day, take a couple of deep breaths and remember why you wanted to be a trucker first. Bad days are inevitable, but we must be strong and power through the tough ones while remembering all the amazing experiences this profession provides.
Remember, if we learned something from 2020, truck drivers are among the essential workers in America. So, be proud and keep on trucking.
